Return of the Creature Feature
Pen Pop: What is so engaging about this poster? Is it the matching pink pants and pink fox-face? The contrast in the casual pose and the flaming bottle? Or is it that this collage was taped together and put up as a one-of-a-kind picture? I dunno.
Creature Feature!
Pen Pop: Creepy crawlies are on the newstands! These collage’d pictures have been carefullly inserted into various Examiner boxes around town. A mischievous green rabbit-creature and a knowing sloth-creature (actual animals unknown) give us a look as they slide by. After the jump mouse, mouse, mouse, 8-ball! and a hummingbird and friend. Where’d these come from?
Pinnipeds
Pen Pop: San Francisco’s best animal? Sure there are dogs and cats and possibly birds. An SF Sea Lion beats them all. This guy is too cool for school and hanging out in the Tenderloin. Here’s a perfect combo of bubble eyes and truism on a bold sticker. But even pinnipeds have competition. Click below for the runners-up.
Friday: Don’t Get In That Van!
Pen Pop: Because it’s not real! Just a fence for some autobody shop! Going from home to work to home, I feel like I’m always walking a Mission-SOMA corridor in 94103. I take different streets and alleys to avoid tedium and stalkers. But lately I’ve been noticing these strange vans parked everywhere. At least they’re marked.
Pasties!
Pen Pop: Tried to get out of the Mission, didn’t make it past SOMA. Awesome Punk isn’t the usual flat square and looks to be made for a fire hydrant. Cheating Death is Nothing New on the former New School building on Valencia. Arabesque on Folsom. Green-drips tooth also on the former New School, a building that keeps looking good. Like this 3-way view from Hugh Leeman on 16th.
Poster Art and Mural Walk (15th Street)
I stumbled upon a few posters and murals on a little walk through the Mission this week. These pieces are so colorful and bright. A pleasant surprise! Murals and posters can be found in the Mission between 15th and 18th Street along Valencia. Don’t forget to check out a new wall that’s being freshly painted on 15th.
SF Street Art: Clarion Alley II
This mural in Clarion Alley is truly of epic proportions. Painted on a two story San Francisco home facing Clarion Alley, these bunnies with wings make a stunning addition to the street art landscape.
SF Street Art: Clarion Alley
I spied some great pieces on the walls at Clarion Alley this past weekend. This larger than life mural stands over 12 feet tall. Take a stroll through Clarion Alley in the Mission to see San Francisco creativity in action.
Another Valencia Street Parklet?
Neighborhood blog Mission Mission reports that a new parklet is being built right in front of Freewheel Bike Shop (Valencia @ 20th). They also state that there are plans underway to build even more parklets in the next several months across the city. I know there are many folks who are all “Yay, parklets are awesome!” but all I can think is “Well, there goes two more coveted parking spots on Valencia Street.” And I don’t even drive.
