If you’re looking to travel down the Great Highway (and taking advantage of this amazing weather to hit the beach) then head’s up: the two southbound lanes will be closed starting today through Friday, 3pm (you know, when the weather turns cold again) for sand removal.

There are a lot of schools in San Francisco and cars pretty much drive like maniacs around them, especially those parents trying to get their kid to school on time before whizzing off to work or other duties. That’s why the SFMTA wants to lower the speed limit around these institutions to 15mph.

What I want to know is which hapless staffer decided to kick off President Obama’s 2012 campaign on this day of all days in a town with pot dispensaries on every other corner and not notice the corollary. SF Appeal reports that the Great Highway will be closed early this week (today? tomorrow?) for clean-up. Apparently, sand from the beach and dunes has spread out on the roadway and poses a driving hazard. So, heads up if you’re traveling that way.
