The expansion and overhaul at the Metreon in San Francisco has quickly taken shape over the last year – with shops and restaurants opening sporadically in 2012. But the centerpiece is set to open its doors to the public on Wednesday.

Target Comes to the Metreon
There are a lot of business that have come and gone in the Metreon complex, aka the Retail Kiss of Death. But Mayor Gavin Newsom has recently approved one retail behemoth that just may be here to stay: Target. It will be San Francisco’s first store of the national Minneapolis-based retail chain. And according to the Mayor’s office, it will “create 700 permanent jobs and 600 construction jobs and an estimated $15 million annually in benefits to the city through sales and real estate taxes.” Do I here an outcry from downtown NIMBYs?
