Hayes Valley Parklet Party
Hayes Valley will soon have their first community parklet. To celebrate, generate interest, and fundraise, a Parklet Party will take place on Friday at Mercury Cafe.
PARK(ing) Day
This Friday, ordinary parking spaces turn into makeshift public parks and social spaces for PARK(ing) Day.
New Parklets Pop Up
Eight new parklets have been approved by the city with nine more in varying stages of approval. As the SF Examiner tweeted: “More San Francisco parking spots to be converted to parklets.” Each mini park takes up roughly 2 parking spots. But, hey, at least you get space to lounge around on the streets.
Another Valencia Street Parklet?
Neighborhood blog Mission Mission reports that a new parklet is being built right in front of Freewheel Bike Shop (Valencia @ 20th). They also state that there are plans underway to build even more parklets in the next several months across the city. I know there are many folks who are all “Yay, parklets are awesome!” but all I can think is “Well, there goes two more coveted parking spots on Valencia Street.” And I don’t even drive.
Parklets Controversy
In what looks to be another growing Mission neighborhood brouhaha, Ritual Coffee Roasters is planning to create a parklet in front of its cafe and some of its residential neighbors, particularly in the Liberty Hill Neighborhood Association, aren’t too thrilled.
