If the developers have anything to do with it then, yes, Treasure Island – that inconveniently-located piece of land that most SFers only flock to for the music festival- will one day be one of SF’s most exclusive residential enclaves.

Bay Area homeowners received some unwelcome news today when real estate site Zillow posted their data on fourth-quarter home values across the country during which values significantly fell. According to the SF Chronicle, “the accelerated declines are likely to bring the real estate market to a bottom later this year”.

After the recent spate of suspected arson-ignited fires around the Castro, Supervisor Scott Wiener, in whose district (District Eight) the affected neighborhood falls under, is putting forth a proposal today that would aid victims of fires and other natural disasters by offering below market housing rentals.

Forbes just put out its America’s Most Miserable Cities list. What exactly makes a city miserable? Is it a depressed economy and housing market, high rates of violent crime, and rampant unemployment? Yes – to all of the above. And, guess what, the Golden State has eight of the twenty most miserable cities in the entire country.
