Evil Dead Drink-A-Long
Get your fill of zombies Thursday night at Cinema Speakeasy’s presentation of Evil Dead Drink-A-Long. Just $5 gets you access to a double feature screening of The Evil Dead and Evil Dead: II. But this is no ordinary screening, its a drink-a-long. This means beer folks!
Another Monday, Another BART Protest
Welcome to the weekly Bay Area Rapid Transit protest column. Another protest is scheduled for Monday night at 5 p.m. at the Civic Center station in San Francisco. But there is one difference this week.
Good Business is the Best Art
Pen Pop: Street Art is more than just murals and graffiti. It’s the color of store displays and traffic cones; it’s a restaurant’s no-smoking notice; and it’s the handmade sign of mom & pop stores. Noticing these different compositions, colors, and mediums is one of the joys of walking around the city. See it all after the jump.
POP Culture
Pen Pop: Remember Barteño? It’s a stylized Bart Simpson that you can see here. There are more POP culture references on the streets: from television are Dexter and DLOCS’ grape ape; a tattooed Andy Capp from the funnies; and the movies Weekend at Bernie’s and French Kiss each have a little poster. The best things in life are free! Check it out after the jump.
Will Work for Cheese
Pen Pop: Mickey Mouse seems bemused by his need for cheese; a cool guy in neon pink and sunglasses; love and coke ain’t dead; fresh outta cash; and a pair of abandoned converse sneakers. Photos from Soma to the Sunset and beyond! One of these things is not like the others…
Friday: Fenced In!
Check out the others after the jump! So here it is in reverse. And the card I pulled said, “Look at the order in which you do things” just as I typed the first sentence. Plus, I’ve been consulting the Oblique Strategies. That’s just how my Friday’s going. So I decided to write this backwards. Pen Pop
Sneakin’ and Peekin’
Pen Pop: Dirty Harry sneaking through the back alleys and peeking into the seedy underbelly of the city. But I’m just skimming the surface of the city’s dirty windows. Lots of color but no Hot Mary. Maybe because I’m wandering in Soma and the Mission? Look after the jump for more creepin’ shots.
Pinnipeds
Pen Pop: San Francisco’s best animal? Sure there are dogs and cats and possibly birds. An SF Sea Lion beats them all. This guy is too cool for school and hanging out in the Tenderloin. Here’s a perfect combo of bubble eyes and truism on a bold sticker. But even pinnipeds have competition. Click below for the runners-up.
Friday: “Nature, Healthy Vegetation and Christmas”
Pen Pop: Headed to the woods today so I thought I’d some green behind. Transformer Green supposedly suggests “nature, healthy vegetation, and Christmas.” Frankly, I wish trashcans and electrical boxes were still a fog-grey. Ah, well. Pink, white and gold pops right off the green.
Enter the Void
Pen Pop: Open a mailbox but don’t send a letter. A tiny gallery waits within! Here is an ongoing correspondence that doesn’t travel from person to person but waits hidden, secret and public. Search out different pieces, find conversations, look for repetition. And watch the movie! It’s a life changer.
