California State Parks has announced that they will be closing about a quarter of state parks due to budget cuts. Service reductions are scheduled to begin in September with full closures coming next July.

There will be a rally this afternoon against the annual recent budget cuts targeting public schools. Taking place in the Excelsior District, there will be a march starting at the SF Community School at 2pm followed by a rally from 3:30 – 4pm at 163 London Street.

With massive budget cuts across the board, UC Berkeley plans on cutting two major sports from the university’s athletic roster: baseball and men’s gymnastics. Three other sports which were also on the chopping block – men’s rugby, women’s lacrosse and women’s gymnastics – have been spared. Really? Women’s lacrosse over baseball? Hm.
