In what can only be termed “a bright idea,” the California Department of Transportation is working with internationally acclaimed artist Leo Villareal to create the world’s largest LED light sculpture on the western span of the Bay Bridge.

Commuters from the East Bay will have to find another way to get into San Francisco starting on Friday night as westbound lanes of the Bay Bridge will be closed as crews complete work needed to reconfigure the lanes on the span.

Construction on the new Bay Bridge in underway. The project organizers just posted a video on the most recent development where the 4th segment for the SAS main tower was lifted into place. The segment weighed 500 tons and it took 10 hours just to lift it high enough to place on the bridge. Check it out for yourself.
