851 is a candlelit reading series in Lower Haight

851 is a monthly reading series (dubbed by City Lights Bookstore as “by far, one of the most exciting reading series in San Francisco”) hosted by Janey Smith, located in a derelict apartment in Lower Haight lit entirely by tea lights, votives, and those Saint candles you can get at the grocery store.

The NFL’s first pre-season power ranking list is out and the San Francisco 49ers rank 26th. That’s 26th out of 32 teams. Yeah, the stats aren’t looking too good,  but the pre-season games beginning this weekend give you an excuse to toast to the home team.

Those epic views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and Angel Island just got a little more interesting. If you’re looking out at the water anytime this week, you’ll likely see dozens of small white sails in the distance.  They’re racing in the Laser Master World Championships, hosted by the St. Francis Yacht Club.
