Over the past five plus years, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Alex Smith has been perhaps the most maligned athlete in the entire Bay Area. And now, because of injury, he may have lost his job for good.

While last week’s performance, or lack thereof, a 34-16 loss to Green Bay, probably had more to do with Singletary’s decision to give Alex Smith yet another chance, I for one will be both shocked and impressed when Mr. Smith takes his first snap under center as the starting QB.
