SF Appeal reports that the Great Highway will be closed early this week (today? tomorrow?) for clean-up. Apparently, sand from the beach and dunes has spread out on the roadway and poses a driving hazard. So, heads up if you’re traveling that way.

SF State has a $32 million deficit and with state and education funding quickly drying up, the university is facing a monetary crisis. To this end, the school created the 12-member University Planning Advisory Council [UPAC], who released a report today detailing the possible steps SF State would need to take to ease their financial woes.

SF Appeal reports that the SFPD will be holding a sobriety checkpoint in Potrero Hill (at Potrero Avenue and 23rd Street) on Saturday, January 22nd from 8:30am going on till the wee hours of the night. Why they are announcing the DUI checkout days ahead of time is anyone’s guess. Now all the reckless drunkards will know to avoid Potrero as they’re slamming home Four Lokos.

Women all over SF now have a new clinic they can go to for safe, clean and affordable OB/GYN care. After having the one and only clinic (Golden Gate Planned Parenthood) in the city stripped of its affiliation, Planned Parenthood has now reopened an office in the Mission.
