According to City Insider , Mayor Gavin Newsom has introduced legislation that would close down Golden Gate Park and McLaren Park from 1am – 5am. His theory is that if you’re wandering around the park at 3am you’re probably up to no good. Yeah – he’s probably right.

Huge School Cuts

Posted by Anhoni Patel on Dec 15, 2010

Looks like financially-suffering and resource-deficient schools are about to get even more beleaguered. Governor-Elect Jerry Brown is trying to tame the state’s financial woes (there’s a $25.4 billion budget deficit) and is taking no prisoners. One of the first items to be cut: education. He plans to present his budget proposal on Jan 10th and it won’t be pretty. Why is it that every time cuts need to be made, education is the first item to hit the chopping block. Is there nothing else?

More People Biking

Posted by V. A. on Dec 14, 2010 | One Comment

More and more people are biking to work, using the bike lanes and asking for more access. Will there be more biking options as a means of transportation going forward? I’d always assumed that Market Street would be the first to get the full treatment, where bikes, walkers and Muni own the street. Few, if any, cars allowed!

Even though a local team won the greatest sailing event on the globe, it’s still up in the air where the 2013 event will be held. A few weeks ago, an agreement to hold the event in San Francisco seemed to be a done deal. That was, until Mayor Newsom floated a revised plan; which irked some America’s Cup organizers.

49ers Still In It

After a win against the Seattle Seahawks, where the 49ers took it 40-21, the embattled team has dusted themselves off and fought back to gain a chance at the playoffs. Quarterback Alex Smith returned to the field to throw three touchdowns and (surprisingly) no interceptions. Niners fans everywhere are rejoicing.

And they’re filling Civic Center Plaza with tons of snow to create a snow park for the kiddies. You can also go inside City Hall for some holiday cookies, hot cocoa, and entertainment by Magik Magik Orchestra.

Bernal Heights had their Holiday Evening Stroll yesterday, and now it’s time for the Mission to shine with the Mission Holiday Block Party. And this year the shops and restaurants are pulling out all the stops. You can literally finish all your shopping in this one neighborhood all while having a great time. The malls on Black Friday just don’t compare.
