Pen Pop: Street Art is more than just murals and graffiti. It’s the color of store displays and traffic cones; it’s a restaurant’s no-smoking notice; and it’s the handmade sign of mom & pop stores. Noticing these different compositions, colors, and mediums is one of the joys of walking around the city. See it all after the jump.
Pen Pop: Remember Barteño? It’s a stylized Bart Simpson that you can see here. There are more POP culture references on the streets: from television are Dexter and DLOCS’ grape ape; a tattooed Andy Capp from the funnies; and the movies Weekend at Bernie’s and French Kiss each have a little poster. The best things in life are free! Check it out after the jump.
Pen Pal: “Pen Pal” as in paletas, as in popsicles. Yum! Pen Pal is also your friend in another country who sends you stuff. Like awesome pictures of street art in Mexico! Starting from the top with Enes Crew / Naser. Check out the rest after the jump: Por un Planeta Verde – Ecologia Social; a kiss on a wall; a sneaky esqueleto; and pasted gamelos.
Pen Pop: This is a story about El Barto: Bart does graffiti. Bart is graffiti. Bart gets red-eyed. Bart likes to skateboard. Bart leans on a wall and smokes. Bart is appropriated. Bart does daredevil tricks. Bart drinks too much and barfs. Check out all the bad-ass Barteño after the jump!
Pen Pop: Creepy crawlies are on the newstands! These collage’d pictures have been carefullly inserted into various Examiner boxes around town. A mischievous green rabbit-creature and a knowing sloth-creature (actual animals unknown) give us a look as they slide by. After the jump mouse, mouse, mouse, 8-ball! and a hummingbird and friend. Where’d these come from?
Pen Pop: Mickey Mouse seems bemused by his need for cheese; a cool guy in neon pink and sunglasses; love and coke ain’t dead; fresh outta cash; and a pair of abandoned converse sneakers. Photos from Soma to the Sunset and beyond! One of these things is not like the others…
Check out the others after the jump! So here it is in reverse. And the card I pulled said, “Look at the order in which you do things” just as I typed the first sentence. Plus, I’ve been consulting the Oblique Strategies. That’s just how my Friday’s going. So I decided to write this backwards. Pen Pop
