Holiday season means many things in the Bay Area – lights, Christmas trees, decorations, shopping – and the wonders of nature with holiday ice rinks popping up in the Bay Area. Here are some of the spots to lace up those skates.
Holiday Ice Rink at Embarcadero Center – Located at Justin Herman Plaza in San Francisco, the ice rink opened up early last month and runs through January 6, 2013. The rink is open Sunday-Thursday from 10:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. 90-minute sessions start at every even hour. Private party booking is also available. Admission is between $6.00-$10.00 and skate rental costs $3.50.
Holiday Ice Rink in Union Square – Located in the heart of Union Square in San Francisco, the ice rink is open until January 21. Open daily from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m, with 90-minute sessions that start on every even hour, the ice rink is also available for private party bookings. General admission is $10, children 8 and under are $6 and skate rental is $5.
San Jose Downtown Ice – Located in the heart of Downtown San Jose, the ice rink offers those in the South Bay a chance to skate in the center of the hustle and bustle of downtown San Jose. The rink is open through January 13. Hours vary, but the rink is open most nights until midnight. Admission is $15 for those 11 and older, $13 for children 10 and younger (admission includes ice time and rental skates).
Walnut Creek On Ice – Open through January 13, the Walnut Creek Ice Rink, located within Civic Park, offers a spot in the East Bay to skate outdoors. Hours are Monday-Thursday, 12:00-8:00 p.m., Friday 12:00-11:00 p.m., Saturday 11:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m., and Sunday from 11:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Hours vary during the holiday season. Admission is between $11-15.
