Posted by Keith Mizuguchi on Oct 25, 2012 | Comments (0)

The first major snowfall in the Sierra Mountains has skiers rejoicing as Boreal will be opening up its slopes on Friday.

Boreal Mountain Resort has received more than two feet of fresh snow this week, prompting the early opening. This is the fourth year in a row that the resort will open in October.

Cold temperatures are expected to remain in the area through the weekend with an additional 15-20 inches of snow expected.

Resort officials plan to open the slopes to both skiers and snowboarders, although limited runs will be available. They have not determined a midweek schedule, planning to assess conditions following this weekend.

Most of the other resorts in the area are planning to open sometime in November.
