Pinterest, one of the fastest growing social media firms in the U.S., has officially moved its headquarters from Palo Alto to San Francisco.

The social media company has signed a short-term lease for space on Seventh Street in the South of Market neighborhood. Among the companies new neighbors will be social games giant Zynga and online room rental service Airbnb.

“I am thrilled to welcome Pinterest to the ‘Innovation Capital of the World,’ and am pleased that our efforts to attract and retain the industry’s best and most innovative companies are working,” said San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee.

Pinterest CEO Ben Silbermann said that the company chose San Francisco in part because of the technology talent in the area and the reasonably priced space.

Pinterest focuses on online collections of photos and boards, which can be shared with friends or with strangers who have similar interests. The company was founded in 2008.
