Brian Wilson Likely Done For The Season

San Francisco Giants closer Brian Wilson and team officials said that he is likely out for the season after ligament damage was found in his elbow.

Although “the bearded one” will have a second and third opinion, including a visit with renowned surgeon Dr. James Andrews, he is expected to have to undergo Tommy John surgery and make his return sometime next year.

Wilson talked to the media before Sunday’s game and said he felt a pop during the 9th inning of a game last week against the Colorado Rockies. He decided to stay in the game and recorded the save.

He had issues with his elbow in 2011 as well, pitching in 57 games and spending time on the DL. If in fact it is the case, this will be the second time Wilson has had to have Tommy John surgery; he had the same procedure when he was pitching at LSU.

It is still uncertain who will take over the closer role for the Giants for the rest of the season but Sergio Romo and Santiago Casilla are the leading in-house candidates, although manager Bruce Bochy is likely to go with a closer by committee set-up.
