Huge Demonstrations Expected in San Francisco

Posted by Keith Mizuguchi on Jan 20, 2012 | Comments (0)

Organizers with the Occupy San Francisco movement are promising a major demonstration on Friday in the city’s Financial District.

The group has been fairly quiet over the last few weeks but are promising marches, demonstrations and flash mobs at several locations throughout the city, from early in the morning into the evening hours.

Organizers said events will be taking part nationwide in conjunction with the two-year anniversary of the Citizens United decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, which allowed corporations the same rights as people in spending money on politics.

Along with picketing financial institutions, rallies are expected to be held at the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals as well.

More than 50 organizations are expected to take part in the protests and organizers said they expect thousands of people in attendance from across the country. San Francisco police are expected to have extra officers on duty throughout the day watching over the protests.
