Mayors Make Customary Bet Over Championship Game

Posted by Keith Mizuguchi on Jan 19, 2012 | Comments (0)

As is the case in many playoff games, San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg have made a bet on Sunday’s NFC Championship Game at Candlestick Park.

As part of the “friendly wager,” if the 49ers win, 49th Street in Manhattan will be renamed 49ers Street for one day and Bloomberg will have to send a dozen bagels from Bagel Oasis in Queens to San Francisco. If the Giants win, Lee will have to outfit a Powell Street cable car with the team’s blue and red flags and send Boudin sourdough bread to New York.

Mayor Lee already won a similar bet following the 49ers victory over the New Orleans Saints. New Orleans Mayor Mitchell Landrieu agreed to send fresh Louisiana seafood, a Sucre king cake and Abita beer to Lee if the Saints lost.

Just part of the fun as the lead-up to Sunday’s game at Candlestick Park at 3:30 PM.
