Residents upset about 24-hour Jack in the Box, money is raised to help save the Bazaar Cafe, an injured bird goes missing and the Academy of Science offers a photo competition.

Those are some of the headlines from the Richmond SF blog.

Online petition over fast food chain: Some Richmond residents are signing an online petition to prevent the Jack in the Box on Geary and 11th Avenue from staying open 24 hours a day. A fight inside the restaurant on Thanksgiving led to a brutal hit-and-run. Since then, it has been found that the restaurant does not have the required city permits to stay open 24 hours a day. Many neighbors are concerned about an increase in crime because of the early morning hours.

Bazzar Cafe saved?: Just after Christmas, the Bazaar Cafe sent out an email that they had run into tough financial times and were in danger of closing. Asking for donations, the cafe was overwhelmed with nearly $20,000, more than the $7,000 they has asked for. The owners said the extra money will be used for much-needed improvements around the cafe.

Rescuers search for injured gull: An injured gull was spotted last week with a fishing lure caught in its beak near Elk Glen and Lloyd Lakes in Golden Gate Park. Wildlife rescue workers have been trying to find the bird ever since but to no avail. The lure could make it hard for the bird to feed and preen. Anyone with information on the injured gull should call WildRecue at (415) 979-9700.

Academy of Science offers photo contest: The Academy of Science’s Love Life Photo Competition is back for a second year. The Academy is looking for photos in six categories: land life, aquatic life, night life, family life, mobile life and protect life. Five local judges will choose the winners. The overall grand prize winner receives a dinner and hotel getaway in San Francisco. There are numerous other prizes up for grab as well. Deadline is February 1.
