Hooray for Beer at Roxie Theater!

Remember that liquor license the Roxie applied for back in July? It’s been approved! Soon you will be able to enjoy beer and wine while watching quirky, interesting, and independent films.

Over the past year the Roxie has experimented with alcohol sales on a few occasions with special day permits. Apparently it was a hit, and according to the SF Examiner they will now have a permanent permit to sell booze whenever they like.

The addition of beer and wine sales to screenings and events at the Roxie will promote its mission statement “to make the theater a place of gathering and celebration”, while providing a much needed revenue injection. It’s tough out there for small independent theaters, and hopefully this outside the box tactic will keep the Roxie safe from the fate of other beloved theaters like the Red Vic.
