Kelly Slater Could Secure Title at Ocean Beach Today

Kelly Slater could secure his 11th world title today at the Rip Curl Pro Search surf contest at Ocean Beach, the first major San Francisco surf contest.

Slater will hit the water at approximately 2:45 during Heat 6 of Round 3. If he wins the heat, he will clinch the No. 1 position in the ASP Rankingsand secure his first championship on mainland soil.

Yesterday, Slater told reports the victory—if it happens—plays second to the remembrance of professional surfer and three-time champ Andy Irons who unexpectedly died of cardiac arrest one year ago today.
