Posted by Keith Mizuguchi on Apr 11, 2011 | Comments (0)

Nearly eleven years after closing, San Francisco International Airport’s Terminal 2 is finally prepared to open its doors to the public.

On Saturday, airport officials held an open house at the state-of-the-art terminal, which features 14 gates and will be the main hub for Virgin America and American Airlines.

The first flights into and out of the terminal are scheduled for Thursday.

Registered with the United States Green Building Council, the terminal is also aiming to be the first LEED Gold-certified terminal in the U.S.

Along with its state-of-the-art environmentally-friendly features, it will also include several permanent art installations, a number of restaurants (including from celebrity chefs Tyler Florence and Cat Cora), shops and a children’s play area.

Terminal 2 was originally closed when the International Terminal opened in 2000.
