SF Zoo Welcomes Newest Resident

Posted by Keith Mizuguchi on Mar 14, 2011 | Comments (0)

Visitors to the San Francisco Zoo will have an opportunity to see the latest bundle of joy: a new baby koala.

Zoo officials said the still unnamed koala was actually born in July.

“When she’s no longer nursing, that’s when the mom decides, it’s time for you to start climbing on my back,” curator Jim Nappi told the San Francisco Chronicle.

Nappi takes care of the zoo’s three adult koalas. He said they weren’t even sure the baby kola was inside her mom’s pouch until December.

The koala will be on view daily from 11 to 4. And although she doesn’t have a name, the zoo plans to auction off the naming opportunity at a fundraiser next month.
